Miguel Cabrera

Despite the Tigers getting blown out last night, there was an amazing moment in the 8th inning when Miguel Cabrera stepped up to the plate.

It took him a few moments to get into the box, and he kind of sat there and looked around, a bit of a grim look on his face. What he was thinking, I figured out, was that it would be his last at-bat of the season, and he wanted to make it count. The visible focus was incredible; it was apparent on television.

After a few pitches, he squared up on a curveball over the plate and completely tattooed it to left-center, WAY out there. It was a special moment, when a player with all the talent in the world was completely locked-in and has the determination to show his very best. I’ll remember it for the rest of my life.

In my mind, Miguel Cabrera just established himself as the best hitter in the major leagues. Look for him to win MVP in 2012. Perhaps he should’ve won it this year.
